In the autumn, the Port of Rauma Oy will start construction of the last part of the expansion area of the outer Petäjäs
Rauman Satama Oy has published a call for tenders for the last undeveloped area of the Ulko-Petäjäs extension area. The contractor is likely to complain during August. The contract is scheduled to begin in the fall and continue for a total of a couple of years. The backfill area will have to be built from imported quarry, which will lead to a long contract period.
“The water permit for the Ulko-Petäjäs expansion area expires at the end of 2021, so now is a good time to start building the area,” says Hannu Asumalahti, CEO of Rauman Satama Oy. “The areas under construction now are all already reserved and we want us to have areas for future needs as well. The estimated cost of the contract is more than 10 million euros. In addition, millions of costs are incurred for the treatment of contaminated land and for regional lighting. ” Phases 2 and 3 of the Ulko-Petäjäse port area, which are currently under construction, will be completed during the autumn. “The construction of this Petäjäs 4 area is a continuation of the large investments started in spring 2016: the deepening of the fairway and the container terminal investment, which included the construction of the phase 1 extension of Ulko-Petäjäs,” Asumalahti continues.
