- INSTRUCTIONS FOR CROSSING THE BORDER FROM 14.5.2020
Travel restrictions to prevent a corona pandemic will be phased out. Commuting, other necessary traffic and the return of Finnish citizens to Finland can begin on Thursday, May 14, 2020.
- RECOMMENDED BY THE RAUMA HEALTH AUTHORITIES
The Rauma Health Authority asks Rauman Satama Oy to forward a recommendation to companies in the port area that joint transports should be avoided. If this is not possible, the use of mouth and nose pads during transport would be desirable. In addition, work situations where you have to be in the vicinity of 2 meters for more than 15 minutes should be avoided.
- THERE IS NO LONGER A NEED TO RESTRICT VISITS TO SEAFARESRS’CONTRIES
Visits to seafarers’ countries are regulated by EU Regulation 2016/399 (Schengen Borders Code), Annex VII, point 3. In Finland, this recommendation (may be permitted) has been implemented by the provisions of section 44 of the Aliens Act (301/2004). During exceptional circumstances, the right of seafarers to call ashore at the ship’s port location is limited to what is necessary (RVLE letter dated 15.4.2020, RVL2013354).
The decision made by the Government on 7 May 2020 significantly eases the restrictions on cross-border traffic, e.g. for commuting. With the entry into force of the facilitations on 14 May 2020, it will no longer be necessary to restrict seafarers’ access to the port area. However, operators are advised to follow the current guidelines and recommendations of the National Institute for Health and Welfare (www.thl.fi) in order to prevent the spread of the corona epidemic.
Seafarers’ crew changes shall be carried out in accordance with normal procedures. If the shipping company wishes to ascertain the person’s state of health before boarding the ship for a seafarer entering a Finnish port, it is possible to arrange quarantine-like conditions when the shipping company or its representative is responsible for the arrangements. A seafarer whose entry is subject to a visa and has not been issued in advance or whose stay does not allow for the implementation of the above arrangement may be issued a visa allowing a stay of up to 15 days upon arrival at the border. This arrangement is possible in Finland and the implementation of the arrangement must be presented to the border guard authority in connection with the notification of the seaman arriving in the country.

Metsä Fiber, part of the Metsä Group, has decided to build the world’s most modern sawmill in Rauma. The value of the investment is approximately EUR 200 million. Construction work will begin in spring 2020. Production is scheduled to start at the sawmill during the third quarter of 2022.
For the time being, the operations of the Port of Rauma will continue as normal, the port gate will be operational and ship services will be provided 24/7. However, we have prepared for the exceptional situation caused by the spread of the coronavirus in many ways. We primarily follow and follow the instructions and regulations issued by the authorities.
If, due to official decisions or other reasons, it is necessary to change the opening hours of the port or reduce the provision of ship services, we will inform you immediately. According to the development of the situation, companies operating in the port area decide and inform independently about changes in their operations.
